They do seem to have a presence on each continent - they must have been spread by man at some point.
Classed as a Cosmopolitic species - though they like it warmer than we can provide.
They do well in houses which is good for us and for them - and probably explains their huge range.
Always good to broaden your knowledge, so thanks for that Linda

| | | Re: spIDer help Not that I've read, but that doesn't mean it won't - it all depends what you were doing to the spider?
Spiders will bite in self defense - some you really have to goad, others will nip at the slightest provocation.
It could be this is in the 'slightest provocation' group, though usually that sort of thing is generally mentioned.
Did it envenomate? or was it a quick bite?

| | | Re: spIDer help Well hard to say because i have woken up in the morning with a bite so i dont know if i provoked it or not, i saw the spider on my bed, also i have been bitten just sitting in the lounge. The bite swells alot and very painful not itchy, although i think i am getting ammune to them now after 2 years because the bites are not so bad.

I'm assuming you've actually seen the spider that bit you (in the lounge) - just because you woke up with a bite and there was a spider on the bed, doesn't mean that it was the spider that bit you.
Spiders don't go around biting people just for fun - we're not on its prey list, so I guess he's telling you to watch where you're putting yourself.
Sounds like they are full of attitude
I often get that feeling from jumping spiders - when you are looking close at them and they stare right back at you.
You can almost hear the "And?..."
or more likely - "if you were smaller I'd eat you."
