Thanks for the ident, Scartlet Lily Beetle - Lilioceris lilii.
Whilst in the container they were actually making a quite loud squeaking noise, apart from the 'noisy' insects crickets, grasshoppers etc, is this usual ?
Web recources seem to infer that they should by removed form the envirioment being an invasive alien, does anybody know any more of this ?. |

Don't know about these squeaking but a lot of beetles do it very quietly - you must have good hearing! As mentioned on the lily beetle thread these can destroy lily plants very rapidly. This matters in the wild because they will eat Fritillaria meleagris (snakes head fritillary) which is quite an endangered species. Quote: |
