In answer to your other question, all spiders are poisonus - it's how they kill thier prey! But not many in this country can actually penetrate human skin. The most notable one would be Argyroneta aquatica which can give a rather uncomfortable bee sting like bite.
Your spider though is harmless.

Now the big question is, I dont want to harm them, I just want them out of my house, are there any efficient ways of keeping spiders out, apart from putting up signs "spiders this way to the garden please"
The house is rather old thus I know there are a million places they can hide, so I was thinking of getting traps, are there any you would recommend? Also is there anything they dont like like dunno certain smell I could spray around the house?
Thanks for any suggestions,

Phantom | I'd say forget it and learn to live with it!! I don't think there is any chance of ever getting rid of spiders in your house. Besides, think of all the other unpleasent creepy crawlies that your house would be filled with if it weren't for the spiders .
Personally I don't really see many spiders around the house (unless I really go searching!). The males of Tegenaria tend to be more visible in summer and autumn time when they run around searching for a mate.
I don't know about traps/deterrents, someone else may have suggestions - it may be worth starting a new thread since someone who is scared of spiders might not want to read this thread - especially with the attached picture!
I used to be really scared of spiders, but once I started to learn about them I became less and less scared to the point where I can now pick them up with no bother and actually go out looking for them!!
Regards,

Phantom | My advice is: Don't do it!
You'll be over run with all sorts of horrible little creepy crawly insects, Spiders are GOOD!
They do far more good than bad... Save the spiders!! |

| | | Re: Spider ID please ok hers the background, where Im from Ive only seen small spiders, maybe the size of your nail including legs or the bigger ones but they are really really thin, and even those only outdoors. If someone would have told me this kinda huge spiders exists outside the tropics I wudnt have belived him.
This big fat version of spiders I encounter in the UK freaks me out, a while ago I woke up at night to see one of them cute fellows 2 feet away from me on the wall, managed to catch it and researched, dont remeber the name but it was the fastest spider in the world with 4km/h and it sort of runs backwards and turning around.
I know the houses are old and theres no way of sealing them properly but after the encounter with the spider mentioned above and today with this cute fellow, Id be able to fall asleep faster knowing that they dont have any relatives wandering about the house or crawling around/in the bed.
Maybe you get used to them if you grow up with this kinda pet but I didnt and I cant imagine ever not minding them. As Ive said small version or very very thin ones ok, but big fat spiders freak me out, so any constructive solutions welcome.
Thanks again,
Phantom |

| | | Re: Spider ID please Hi phantom,I came home from work one day to find the lioness trapped in a cornerthe stairs on her left the front and lounge doors to her right she had been there for hours totally terrified of a huge house spider.
I just picked it up and put it outside, curiosity finally overcame her fear and although she will not handle spiders ,there is no second thought now, a glass and postcard sees them off; glass over the top gently slide the card underneath a quick look and out it goes witha long walk if it wants to come back
Spiders are a fact of life they do no harm just inconvenience you, be firm (with yourself) put it outside, congratulations

| | | Re: Spider ID please The only way to avoid spiders in a house such as you describe Phantom is to move out. Otherwise get a cat or dog that likes to eat them then at least they will mostly stay in hiding. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
