I am not yet knowledgeable enough to identify any spiders I have photographed. Can anyone help with this one please? It is in the Gallery as 'Unidentified Spider'. It was on an inside house wall in South Devon in August this year. Thanks.[IMG]  [/IMG] |

I'm not big on identifying spiders either but it may be a Wolf Spider?
I'm sure someone will come along and correct me!

What size was it ? It does look like a Wolf spider to me also. |

Thanks to you both for responding so quickly. I did wonder. If the measurements for spiders are just for the body and not for the legs as well then the 7mm shown in my book would be about right - unfortunately the photograph was a 'grabbed' shot and I did not make all the notes I should have done, so I am having to remember the size. |

Yes, this is a Trochosa species wolf spider (Lycosidae). The species (we have four) are quite tricky to separate, even with a microscope.

Thanks Greg. As a new member I have been looking at the photographs on the site - they are tremendous. I have realised that I need to sharpen up (sometimes literally) my photographic skills as well as my ability to ID what I have seen. Thanks again. | | |
