Spider Found in Grapes

Hi There

I was hoping someone could help

Yesterday I found a spider in some grapes I brought from Tesco. The packaging has no indication as to where they have come from.

I am sure its getting bigger, it was in a silk looking white sack looking and crawled out. I caught it in a glass and have been itching since. I treid Tesco who were useless and asked me to bring it back in a carrier bag!

The thing that concerns me the most is, it was in our fridge from Sunday AM and is live and kicking....

I dislike spiders but have/never would kill one (superstitious) So what shall I do. Is it dangerous?

Its not very big, yellow-ish, long front legs and a white-ish looking sack.

I have a few pics that are not great but unsure how to upload....

Hi Gemma,

Unfortunately the photos aren't clear enough for a positive ID (even if they were they wouldn't get it to species).

Saying that, from the general appearance, silk retreat and long front legs my suspicion would be Clubionidae, Cheiracanthium sp., or perhaps a Gnaphosid. It is much more likely to be a British species that crawled in during packing or transport (or even in your fridge) than a dangerous species, of which there are very few (none in the UK).

I decided to take it to Tesco, and I am glad I did as they seemed worried. The man from Grocery said he had been working there for 7 years and never seen anything like it, they are going to ring me in the next few days to inform me of their findings.

I have since been searching the net and it looks very similar to a yellow sac spider to me. Obviously I am no expert but I have looked at about 30 photos and I am convinced.

As soon as I get a response I will inform you although I am not hopeful they will be entirely honest with me.
