| | | ID please .... no, not the Gatekeeper .... the white spider I was taking some photos of a Gatekeeper this morning (yet more Gatekeeper photos ) when I noticed this white spider on the same plant.
I am no spider expert but from other images in our Gallery I think it may be a Crab Spider.
Could anyone confirm or contradict please?

If so, it had a lucky escape as my shadow fell over it and it flew off!

Richard | I think it would have atleast had a go. They sit in flowers (usually the same colour flowers as them) an wait for bees, hoverflys etc. and then pounce. And a butterfly is all wings so the vemon would have acted fast on its small body. Mind you I may be corrected... |

Takes around 2 weeks to do so.
(why sit on a purple flower? - who knows?)

(why sit on a purple flower? - who knows?) | Yes, I've seen 2 yellow ones recently- 1 was on Ragwort flowers + the other on a golden sedge, Carex elata "Aurea" in my garden- great camouflage. Back in the spring in the garden there was a Small White nectaring on a white flowered Dame's Violet when it was taken by a white Misumena. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
