| | | Re: frogs happy again I saw two frogs in our pond today- I think it was the same two in amplexus back several weeks ago, and they were both upright and moving; albeit slowly.
So pleased they've survived the pond being frozen over... I had been worried about them. |

| | | Re: frogs happy again Still no sign of frogs let alone spawn in my pond.I had a walk down with a torch earlier this evening but nothing going on.
The pond was frozen earlier last week and had a thin layer of ice today after a frosty/snowy night.
I hope to see Frogs towards the end of next week. |

| | | Re: frogs happy again I've just gone out with a torch and counted 8 in our garden pond. Relieved as the water was completely frozen over for the first time this year and I didn't know how it would affect them. |

| | | Re: frogs happy again Last winter was awful! We found over 20 dead frogs in our pond because of the snow and ice, but thankfully we still had some frogspawn in the Spring. I've only seen one frog so far this year. We need some sunshine! |

| | | Re: frogs happy again I suspect a lot of us are going to get our frog arrivals later this week- there's going to be rain + the temperatures are going to soar from mid-week. My frogs normally return late Feb + conditions look perfect from about Wednesday. |

There have been a few frogs around in the ponds, but I think they're all males which overwintered there - no new arrivals yet. It'll be interesting to see which ponds they choose for spawning, now that they have a bit more choice than last year.
Saw the first male toad last Friday (17th), heading into their usual breeding pond, although it's still rather early for those - first toad spawn here during 2009-2011 was between 18 and 22 March. |
