| | | small welsh lizard identification hey guys and girls, sorry no pics of this. But last summer i was climbing a hill on the welsh border (Barmouth to be precise, i got there every year) And about half way up, i spotted a small lizard on a stone, before i got a good look it had moved, but it was small, about 2 or 3 inches long, and balck. Any ideas? thanks |

| | | Re: small welsh lizard identification Most likely a common lizard. I pretty sure there are no sand lizards in Wales, or any colonies of non native Wall lizard. Common lizards are often black while juvenile too which would also fit with your description |

haven't been to barmouth for years. used to love the drive...very scenic.
as neil says it will have been a young common lizard, although there have been successful (so far) sand lizard re-introductions to a few spots in north wales.

tim | Barmouth is a lovely place, and as you said the journey is perfect, im lucky enough to be able to go 3 times a year as i have relatives who own a caravan up there. Its a great place for wildlife |
