Just found a dead lizard

Hello all

i work in quite a large factory in Liverpool, i have just been walking through the factory floor an found a very much dead lizard - it looks like its been stood on quite a few times an has been there for some time

but i wonder how it got here

i will upload a pic when i sort my camera out

its small - prob about 3" long

three toes on front legs an 3 on the rear (i think)

its grey/ brown, quite pointed head with large eyes, belly is creamy white

i would love to identify it

Not my area, but it might be a young Common Newt that's got lost? Only lizard would be a Common Lizard.

when i was taking the pictures i noticed the lizard has blue along its flanks

it looks to me like a common lizard though

I would safely say that it is a common lizard because they do have a more pointed head and i think i can see scales.

My intial instinct is smooth or palmate newt.

hi

almost certainly the desiccated remains of a newt. it is not uncommon for them to find there way into cool buildings to hibernate through the winter. around now they emerge and make there way back to a water body to breed through the spring and summer.

I would say newt too going by the small feet.

thanks for the info guys, my only concern with it being a newt is that it has scales and claws (on its toes)

i suppose there is a possibility that it has arrived in our warehouse within a delivery from abroad?

Hmm well maybe then. Hard to see the claws from the image. Do you get deliveries from warmer parts of Europe? Could be a young wall lizard.

we do get palm delivered from Spain, although this is refrigerated so would be surprised if anything could survive that

we also get bits an pieces from India....
