| | | Re: Is this normal?? Maybe your local fish/pond shop might be able to help? I had to take a sick fish to mine last year and they put it in a bucket of water with some sort of chemical in. |

| | | Re: Is this normal?? I have just recieved an e-mail from froglife..... Dear Lianne,
Thank you for your email. It looks, from the picture, that the frog is suffering from ranavirus, commonly known as 'red-leg disease'. Unfortunately this is lethal to frogs and there is nothing we can do to help them. If you would like more information on the disease please see the 'Amphibian Health and Disease' advice sheet on our website, or if you would like a hard copy please send a cheque for £1.30 (£1 plus 30p p+p) to the address below. If you see any more frogs with this condition please could you fill in the Frog Mortality Project questionnaire online (located under 'Ranavirus' in the 'Question has not been answered' section of the Understanding amphibian disease page).
I hope this helps, sorry it's not better news!
So thats what they had to say.
"Frieda" as we called her is now at rest under the willow tree |

| | | Re: Is this normal?? I'm no vet but all the photos I have seen, I would never have thought it to be Ranavirus (red leg) It looked like a prolapse like Landbridge said. Unless the disease causes prolapse. If it is red leg its very contagious so you are likely to get more than one case. Either way the frog has gone to better place and you can feel better knowing you did all you could for it. |

It definately looked like a prolapse.
Thanks all for the interest |

At least you did your best for the frog when you could. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
