| | New here.. Hi all,
I've decided it's time I should join in instead of just reading, last year I moved into a house with a wild garden including five wildlife ponds (now six) none of which are ideal, some too shallow, some too small, most overhung by trees but all have a frog or two and all but one have newts possibly including a great crested, the frog only pond is the only one in which a significant number of taddies survived, a few becoming froglets and a dozen or so that seem determined to spend the winter as taddies, reviving my childhood interest. Pond number six is an old bath that was left here and despite only being filled up a month or so ago it's already been checked over by a frog and a couple of newts. I've been told not to worry unless I start giving them names..

Welcome to WAB. Good to hear you have a nice load of ponds - the more the merrier. Hopefully we'll get to hear about what kind of plants/wildlife you have living in them so far. If you stick around over the winter, it would be interesting to hear about how much ice you get on the ponds over winter, and what effects this has on your pondlife (see the thread I started on this in the water life section). |

trust me you'll love WAB and you must already since you've been reading over. if you get some pics of how big they are etc it will be easier for us to give you advice.

| | | Re: New here.. Thanks,
I am a bit concerned about the ponds completely freezing as I doubt if any of them are two feet deep, one is only about nine inches and I'm sure some of them froze solid last year. I didn't actually take any interest in them till early this year when a visitor pointed out that I had frogspawn in a couple of them.
I shall take some photos and post them and do some measuring

| too late, already been caught doing that!
Correction - just been drawing a map (it's a slow day at work), and I have five ponds, not six. I think I got over excited and included the next one that I have planned, sorry 'bout that!
