You could float a tennis ball or other ball on your pond to stop it freezing. Are they natural ponds or are they lined?
Good luck with your pond. I dug mine in april and i rescued a male common frog who lives there with two froglets and some toadlets.

Yep, I will try the various strategies for coping with frozen ponds and see what works.
None of the ponds are natural, two are rigid preformed ponds, presumably made of plastic or fibreglass, one is an old fashioned galvanised tin bathtub not sunk into the ground at all so god knows how anything got in there to start with, I've now piled up logs on one side to make coming and going a bit easier. One has a flexible liner with brick sides and the one I added was a modern bathtub which the previous owners left and I thought would be just as easy to turn into a pond as to get rid of. Photos to follow soon..
