| | | Re: Halewood park and frog pics. It's difficult taking photos when the subjects are at the bottom of the pond, as I've been doing it myself. Your photos I can see clearly enough appear to be Common Toads rather than Common Frogs- the rough textured warty skin being the giveaway sign.
When I was in Richmond Park a couple of days back the frogs had been + gone- just clumps of spawn to say they'd been there. There were a few strings of toad spawn, but a few adults were in amplexus at the bottom, similar to your photos. |

| | | Re: Halewood park and frog pics. Common Frogs + Common Toads have to go to water to breed + some individuals may stay around the pond while others will disperse away. Provided they can keep their skin moist they don't need to be in water + these 2 species feed on land.
If you have any of the water frogs (Marsh, Pool or Edible) there, these species are much more aquatic + rarely stray far from water.
Maybe the frogs aren't spawning in your pond as they normally appear a bit before the toads shown in your photo. Still it's not too late, though my frogs in my garden seem to have completed spawning now, you might get some. You should at least see some strings of toad spawn there fairly soon. |
