| | | Re: Rehoming Frogs Dont move frogs, they quickly disperse. Young frogs are unlikely to breed for a couple of years so will soon find a new pond, when the time is ready and are not dependent on a pond. All amphibians including common frogs are very prone to diseases and infections. Common frogs are not immune and can suffer high local population crashes as a result of disease. |

Please read the advice from these people.. Froglife
I am with dogghound the frogs will find a new pond in the spring to breed. | But I did see and measure the outcomes that is how I know I was successful.
It may be the same virus that wiped out frogs in The Midlands in the 70s and 80s I don`y really know.
I do know that there were large areas with no frogs left. At the time we blamed agricultural chemicals but it was more likely a combination of chemicals weakening the Amphibians resistance to a virus. (I think that a similar situation is developing with Common Seals at the present)
I only introduced frogs from sites that were being destroyed to areas where there were no frogs at all. That is what I meant by "frogless areas". in that way it was not the same as introducing new frogs to areas with healthy populations. There would be no point in doing that with so many areas devoid of frogs.
Does that make sense?

Dave | Yes it does.
Who knows what affect chemicals from farms have on populations of all sorts of wildlife especially the chemicals that used to be used and are banned now but still in the environment..
Makes you wonder why there are so many diseases in humans.
Anyway back to the topic its best not to move frogs to where there are frogs already and where are none maybe the habitat is wrong for them. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
