| | | first frog sighting in pond! Hi Wabbers,
We've been very lucky, on a particularly wet afternoon, to enjoy the first sighting of A [singular] frog in our wildlife pond!
Its taken about 6 months [we dug the pond in Feb] for one of our amphibian friends to take up residence, but we're delighted he or she has taken a liking to it. |

| | | Re: first frog sighting in pond! Congrats! It's so satisfying finding your first frog (or toad/newt) in a newly created pond. Maybe with luck you might get some spawn (assuming more are around) next Feb/March. |

| | | Re: first frog sighting in pond! When I moved to Leamington Spa I dug myself a pond and put a few fish in it. I also created a waterfall and small stream. After a short while I found a few frogs had colonised it but after 18 months I left there to move to Coventry.
Before I left I had to fill the pond in (a condition of my tenancy) so imagine my surprise when I caught 72 frogs.
Thankfully, because I had been forced to move because the property was badly damaged, I was given time to get the property in Coventry ready before leaving Leamington. This allowed me time to build another pond in the Coventry garden and I transferred all 72 frogs to that pond.
I have been here 7 years now and a lot of the frogs have dispersed but I know I still have over thirty in it as I had to drain it last year then refill it and that was how many was left.
Two years ago I built another pond, this time a very shallow one (10 deep) and that has become a nursery pond for the frogspawn that is laid. Now I have baby frogs all over the garden.

| | | Re: first frog sighting in pond! Nice- i only had had my pond for about 2 years and when i was more intrested in fish and intrested in the safety of my fish i hooked out 45 frogs in spring (and put them in a local lake) so the frogs couldnt grab my fish's and accidently kill them anymore (because 1 got killed this way if i remember correctly) but now im more intrested in wildlife so i let the frogs stay

| | | Re: first frog sighting in pond! Fantastic! We had a frog in the veggie patch last year for a few months but it scarpered around September time. Since then I put a pond in and we've got a frog plus some taddies donated (against my wishes) by a relative a few doors down!
The frog will be just the start. Plenty more wildlife will be on it's way! |

| | | Re: first frog sighting in pond! Congratulations! There's nothing like the feeling of satisfaction of knowing you are helping our native amphibians (and dragonflies etc) find a proper habitat... I'm sure your pond will bring you much joy.
I also find it's a great excuse not to mow the lawn... dont want to mush the froglets... |
