| | | Frogs in my goldfish pond Hi all, first time on this site so please excuse any non-traditional questions or language.
I have a 1100 litre fibreglass goldfish pond with a waterfall and fountain, two older goldfish and two newly added goldfish. Unfortunately I also have a succession of frogs that appear around the edge of the pond and in the water.
Some sites on the Internet suggest that frogs are NOT good for the fish. If this is the case, how do I keep them away?
PS when I catch them I take them to a "natural" pond (no filtration) at the bottom of my garden which is 20 feet below my pond, and 30 feet away from it, and release them there. |

| | | Re: Frogs in my goldfish pond Frogs have not been a problem with my fish until they breed in early spring,
when I have had them mount fish and inadvertantly hold their gills shut.

| | | Re: Frogs in my goldfish pond I think you need a pet site as this is a wildlife site so favours the frogs over the goldfish but like Nightshade has said they don't cause a problem only very occasionally in the breeding season.
The fish will eat the frogspawn so if the frogs can get in and out on their own there is no problem so I would leave them alone.

| | | Re: Frogs in my goldfish pond Thanks to the KGC and the KFC of Wild Britain.
I'll look to find a more appropriate site but thanks so much for prompt responses |

| | | Re: Frogs in my goldfish pond As has been said elsewhere, I'd leave them alone to do their own thing. I have both frogs and fish (and newts) breeding in my pond. The fish and newts seem to do best out of the arangement, though the frogs do breed susccessfully as well. |

| | | Re: Frogs in my goldfish pond I doubt the frogs would cause your fish any problems, but I don't see any harm in moving them to the nearby pond if you are concerned. Why not just enjoy the presence of the frogs though, which to be honest are rather more interesting than goldfish (in my opinion). |

Welcome to Wild about Britain.. | Surely WAB is the ideal site for info such as this?
We get a lot of new members looking for advice and guidance, some stay long enough to get hooked and gain a greater interest in the natural world and some dont. (I wonder why? ).
Welcome to WAB Prodgrade7: Your frogs wont be a problem. Some specialist pond fish breeders may get concerned about the small chance of amphibians introducing disease to their stock of valuable fish, but for a normal garden pond I would welcome them, they help keep slugs and other garden pests under control.

| | | Re: Frogs in my goldfish pond I wasn't trying to dissuade him I just thought he was looking for a pet fish website and not a wildlife one..
He obviously was as he has not been back since if it was wildlife he was after I am sure he would have stuck around and might be back at later date now he knows we are here..
Anyway even if he did remove all the frogs from his pond then they would be back the next day and the next and the day after that too as this is what wildlife does. |
