| | | Marsh frog colour change Here are three pictures of the same marsh frog showing the colour change from brown to green. The first picture was taken on the 23 April when the frog was brown with just a green stripe down the middle of its back. The second picture was taken on the 13 May and now the green stripe is a darker green and the body is also changing from brown to green. The third picture was taken on the 28 July and now the green colouring has become very vivid and the stripe on the back has now almost blended in. I would estimate the frog is about two years old, in the first photo it was about two inches long and is now around three inches long. I am not sure if it is a male or female, but it sits and sunbaths together with two other marsh frogs all side by side. |

| | | Re: Marsh frog colour change I know its the same frog because its the only marsh frog that has a stripe down its back, the others all have mottled colouring. Also i have been keeping an eye on my pond almost every day since february, i work from home so i am able to visit the pond every few hours, and i am taking photographs to gather a record of pond activity this year. There are around ten frogs that have taken up permanent residence in the pond this year and four of them are marsh frogs and because of my daily visits i get to see there daily routine. My pond is edged with slate blocks and these get very hot when they are in full sun and while the common frogs stay in the water on hot sunny days the marsh frogs will sit on the slate in full sun and roast themselves. |
