Newt Climbing
I found this newt climbing up the plant in the fish pond.Mark

looks like a female, probably smooth because palmate newts are uncommon.

Did you get a look at it's underside? That would help distinguish between smooth and palmate.
I am going to plump for a male, but past full breeding colours. I can see the remains of a central raised line which would have been its crest. Either smooth or palmate but not Great crested.

im 99 percent sure its a female smooth or palmate newt because males will be quite spotty even when their crest has been absorbed.
