| | | Where to let a fire-bellied toad free I've found a fire bellied toad (Bombina bombina) in a lettuce.
I would be grateful for some information on where to/where not to let it free. |

| | | Re: Where to let a fire-bellied toad free Don't let it free. I don't know what else to say, apart from to ask you why you think it might be a good idea.

| | | Re: Where to let a fire-bellied toad free I don't know what area you live, but look for an "exotics" group near you.
It is illegal to release it into either the wild or your garden where it could escape into the wild. Fire-bellied Toads - Bombina species
Are you certain it is a fire bellied toad? Could you take a photo of its tummy to upload?
I think there are people on this forum who know about the species who may be able to advise how to care for it until you can pass it on.

| | | Re: Where to let a fire-bellied toad free I agree, do not let it go. For a start it is unlikely to survive our winter, and secondly, non native specifies have a devastating effect on our own wildlife.
Look in Yellow Pages, and see if there is an exotic pets supplier who may take it from you. Is there a zoo or other wildlife park who might be able to help.
Where in UK are you? |

But Hungary doesn't have forums like that so need the info
I'm pretty sure its the species because no toad in this area has a resemplace to this one (we just have common and green toads but those bellies are greyish and not black with orange/red spots). The species is pretty common here.
Actually I kinda like it, but I don't have the proper things to care for a toad like that. And my wife would throw me out in case I kept it.

They are a highly aquatic species which tend to inhabit shallow ponds and drainage ditches. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
