| | Green Tree Frogs Charente i received the following from my brother who lives in Poitou Charante, France he's a keen general wildlife watcher.
- First off, a sound I haven't heard for a long long time, and have never heard here in Charente until last week.
In between thunder showers, Ali and I went for a short walk round the outskirts of the village. We heard a strange noise like a sort of electronic click or pop, quite loud and at regular intervals. It seemed to be coming from near some old buildings in a field. Then it got a response from another field nearby. Eventually, we traced it to an overgrown water ditch and then I remembered what it was... green tree frogs. Didn't know we had them here, but they are very common next door in Charente Maritime. They shut up as we got near, but now I know where they hang out I'll have a proper look and confirm...
any info from other members would be apreciated.

| | Re: Green Tree Frogs Charente I kept a pair as a kid - thats when my bro heard them - so its a good few years back (about 50). Just after anyone who's got first hand knowledge of the locale. The info in European Reptiles & Amphibians is a bit general. although now he's heard the recordings he's settled for midwife toad - just keeping his eye's open for a visual confirmation. just for everyone's interest - he keeps finding fire salamander as roadkill locally!
regards & thanks
