| | | snake id please Can anyone identify this snake?
We found it at our front door and have managed to coax it into a reptile tank but until the RSPCA can get here (tomorrow) we would just like to know what we are housing.
Any help would be much appreciated. |

Any help would be much appreciated. | Firstly a picture is obviously going to help and secondly it could well be a grass snake or an adder which are both native species if so the best thing would be to release them back as they will not do overly well in captivity. Also a DWAL is required to keep adders legally.
Sort out a picture and it'll be easier to ID anyway. |

| | | Re: snake id please So sorry but it won't let me upload the pic! It is creamy white in colour with round black patches at regular intervals. I have no intention of keeping it!!
I have managed to upload the pic to the image Gallery. It is named random_snake.

Thanks | It's some kind of king snake by the looks of things, californian king most likely but could do with some better pictures. Where are you located? |

| | | Re: snake id please South east London - have no idea where it came from but coincidentally my husband and son came back from a camping trip this afternoon.
They were in Kent.
I thought King snakes were usually found in the states - but i'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination!

King snakes are commonly kept as pets over here it's most likely got loose or someone has abandoned it somewhere. Although there are a few colonies of non native snakes in the UK, unsure if there's many king snakes knocking about though. It's a possibility I guess.
Might be wise posting a few adds online to find if anyones missing the snake, most likely you'll just get people wanting a free snake but the true owner might contact you. |
