| | | Blind common frog needs a new home Hi all, I am new to this forum.
I've joined it as for one I love nature in all its beauty and also because last january (2006) we picked up 10-15 spawned eggs to see what they were.
It turned out to be the common frog! We had 14 to let go. We put them back to the same spot they came from to continue their existence, with a little help from man (for a change). I know some of you frown on this but it’s so fun to see them grow from tadpole into frogs.
Well anyways one day while looking at the tadpoles i noticed that one of them had no eyes! Where there should have been eyes was just blank colouration that was the natural black that tadpoles should be.
Once the frogs grew into slug eating machines I found that the blind one was the last to grow front legs and leave the water...
So being the kind human I am, I bought some crickets from livefoods.co.uk and threw them into the tank. Well to my disbelief, he can detect the slightest movement and catch them very effectively. I have seen 'blindy' as we call him now eat very well. So much so he eats more than he should so I have to regulate how many crickets I put in the tank.
So to cut a long story short he needs a new home. There is no chance of me letting him go. Its just that I don’t have the time to look after him. So if there are any frog lovers out there that would have the time to look after him then please contact me so we can get him to a home that will cater for blindy better.
Any help in this matter will be much appreciated. We live in cornwall and are happy to travel to get him to you. We need to see that you can look after blindy well before hand though. |

| | | Re: Blind common frog needs a new home We're about to do renivations to the house.
I dont want to have to spend £2.50 a week on him for the rest of his life (i know i am a cheapskate but I am not that organised and forget to order sometimes )
Takes up space.
Hes a cute little thing that has done so well to make it to 1 year old, but want to pass him onto someone will ensure he will be kept well, perhaps a home that allready has a supply of his favourite food - crickets! |

| | | Re: Blind common frog needs a new home Have you tried one of your local schools?
It would be a great way for the children to get involved in Wildlife, even on a small scale, and may lead to them wanting to do more. |

| | | Re: Blind common frog needs a new home If you really can't keep him any longer I think the safest place for him to go would probably be an amphibian sanctuary if you can find one or a college or university (not a school) that has an animal care unit where he will be well fed and monitored by people who are knowledgable (in most cases anyway!) and the animal care students can observe him for behaviour etc. |
