| | | Smooth Snakes, most northerly sites I know of Smooth Snakes in Dorset, though on 2 visits I have failed to see any. Are there any more Northerly sightings? |

| | Re: Smooth Snakes, most northerly sites You don't tend to find smooth snakes basking that often, generally seen under objects, they are highly protected so just by lifting up a refugia you are disturbing them and breaking the law .... not to sound like a party pooper hehe....
I would advise joining / contacting one of the local amphibian and reptile groups in those areas and seeing if they are running any walks or an expert is willing to take you out. May have to wait until spring though but they will find you a smooth snake and because they have a licence you may also get the chance to handle one briefly. Local Groups - ARGUK | ARG UK |

| | | Re: Smooth Snakes, most northerly sites came across one in La Brenne a year or two ago, unfortunately it was a road kill, though by giving to the ranger Tony we were able to identify them in a area they had no previous sightings in the reserve
would love to live in a area in the UK with them, but presently i need to be further west

Thanks for the map by another poster that makes their distribution very clear. |

Thanks for the map by another poster that makes their distribution very clear. | Marks post was in no way condescending and very far from a lecture. It was helpful advice. It's important he mentioned the law as some people reading this post might not be aware and get in to trouble for doing so. |

I agree this post doesn't sound condescending to me, but helpful, practical advise. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
