| | | Romford, Rush Green Area I live next door to the The Chase Nature Reserve and Eastbrook Country Park and am interested in looking to see what Reptiles might live there?
Has anyone had any experience of sighting reptiles in this area?
The Chase Nature Reserve is a large woodland area, some forest, a few lakes, and grassland.
I go get Newts, frogs, water voles and a number of other mammals and invertebrates in the garden but I've never seen any reptiles?
I've hard rumours of Lizards - where am I likely to come across reptiles such as lizards and snakes? |

There will almost certainly be grass snakes over the chase, best advice I (a complete novice!) can offer is to follow the standard reptile hunting tips. Get out in the morning of a sunny day and look for areas like a fallen log in a clearing, or any other area where a reptile can climb out into the morning sun onto something warm like a dry log, a rock, a manmade structure etc....
Find somewhere fairly quiet with a likely habitat nearby (say a pile of logs, maybe even dissused rabbit holes or dense undergrowth) and sit and wait i guess. a wary snake will hear you walking from a mile off so keep quiet and steady!
As a kid I lived in a house that had a really small area of wasteland behind it, people used to dump stuff there and there was a pile of concrete rubble surrounded by weeds and such, i remember seeing a small lizard dart across that and it's not the standard "wild place" so you may well find lizards.
Have you been to the chase visitor center? Im sure they have a tally of sightings etc... |

I would also advise joining your local arg and going out with an expert.... Local Groups - ARGUK | ARG UK |

| | | Re: Romford, Rush Green Area I dont get down there much, despite living within walking distance. I believe there are slow worms on the site. Have you considered join up with EARG (Essex Amphibian and Reptile group) | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
