| | | Unidentified egg-like thing found partly buried in garden I wonder if anyone here can identify what this could be. It's partly exposed in my garden soil in Scotland, about the size of a fist, contains a white "thing" that looks like it could be a growing animal which is hard when poked gently and is surrounded by a gelatinous coating.
eek....
I don't want to harm it if it is s living creature but I am very very scared to leave it.

| | | Re: Unidentified egg-like thing found partly buried in garden It does look like some kind of fungi. A type of puffball maybe? |

It could be the so called 'Witches egg'.
Maybe you could take a new picture to update us?

| | | Re: Unidentified egg-like thing found partly buried in garden I agree, it does look like the early stage of dog stinkhorn.
No need to be worried, alchera, it's interesting to see how it develops! |

| | | Re: Unidentified egg-like thing found partly buried in garden Thanks for all the helpful responses! It is, indeed a stinkhorn egg. Man...it still kind of creeps me out......I'm rather honoured to have such a strange thing growing in my garden though, but it's a tiny garden adjoined by 5 others and I'm really scared that the pong will annoy my daft neighbours.....I never kill anything I come across in life, but I'm not sure I can happily co-exist with this poor thing in me garden! |

| | | Re: Unidentified egg-like thing found partly buried in garden These things normally grow and die pretty quickly, so you won't have it for long. Be sure to post a photo of it in its mature state. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
