| | | Dead Frogs Hello all,
I'm not sure if there is anyone here who would be able to offer some kind of advice, but we seem to be having a problem in our pond where frogs have been found at the bottom dead.
The frogs are fairly small and quite young. We have a hose that constantly trickles water from the mains drinking water tap - to keep the pond levels topped up during the warmer seasons.
I fish out two young frogs yesterday, both had no signs of predation attck or any such red-leg lesions. Larger and older frogs seem to be fine in the pond.
Could it be the water that we use to keep the pond topped up that is killing off the frogs? Or do young frogs just perish/die naturally?
Cheers in advance for any advice. |

| | | Re: Dead Frogs Whether your water has high levels of chemicals will rule it in or out as a problem. I wouldn't think that this would cause frog deaths.
As well as drowning as suggested by the person above, other possibilities are:
winter death- but they would be well decomposed by now.
cat kills oor heron kills, but there would probably be injuries.
chytrid fungus: do they look "dessicated" at all?
the froglife website has a section about amphibian deaths. There is a survey you can fill in, and you can also email them a photo or an email query.
