| | | Re: No tadpoles at all Yes its lovely to have a right old mixture back together again (still have plenty of back up tads tho in my sinks if the worst should happen ) the tads i put in are really huge but as you say they might have a nip of their tales ...but all seemed well in there this morning ...in fact they are probably better off foodwise as they have cleared both sinks of all the algea....and there is loads in the pond for them to nibble away at ....yes it does seem very strange when the tads leave the water with a tail attached and it really does get absorbed very quickly into the body ....but i allways have to make sure i put them into the pond before they decide to leave the sinks as the first year that ever happened ..it was a hot day and their tails got stuck to the surrounding cobbles and dried up very quickly and when i had newly hatched toadlets they were even worse!!!! as it took about 5 days for their skin to change...and until then every hot or even warm stone or cobble meant death !!! so i can only keep them in the sinks till whilst still taddies !!but i am loving every minute of this season ...marion

| | | Re: No tadpoles at all I had thousands of large tadpoles in my pond untill a couple of days agowhen two mallard ducks turned up, they have empted the pond of almost every living thing tads and newts and all this in one day. How can i deter these ducks from the pond or is it maybe best to have duck pie ?Shotski ps the marsh frogs that turned up in the pond also vanished, no spawn |

| | | Re: No tadpoles at all get a cat or a dog ..... no seriously tho ducks are lovely but i could not cope with having them on my pond .....nor could my dogs or cats ...i think oscar my daughters dog would die from shock as he is obsessed with ducks on a large pond that is on one of his walks .. they fly off as soon as they clap eyes on him ...but for 45 mins or more he guards the pond convinced that they are under the water hiding perhaps you could put a cardboard cut out of a predatory figure nr the pond and see if that will do anything or depending on the size of it chicken wire domed over the top ....good luck with whatever you decide to do ....Marion

| | | Re: No tadpoles at all You could try wire mesh over the pond if it's small enough. If not, I don't know how to deter them other than chasing them off regularly (which is of limited use, since they always return). Dense aquatic vegetation should also provide cover for the newts, tadpoles etc.. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
