| | | Re: Lizards living in the wall of our house They are active in the day as well as the evening. We've been outside and had a look and think they may be getting in through the drain. There is crumbled stone in there though so I'm concerned that their exit may have been blocked. Do you think it would be ok to gently remove them outside and see if they make their way back into the hole again? I'd hate to think they were trapped inside.
How do we newt-proof a well? The water level is high, only about a foot below the surface and it's made of uneven stone so it might be ok for them to climb out of. |

| | | Re: Lizards living in the wall of our house It`s not the first time that GCNs have been found living in crevices in the walls of houses. More often than not when this happens it is in the walls of cellars or split level houses that have a portion of the wall below ground level. Crevices in such walls provide cool and relatively humid conditions and of course invertebrate prey also.

I was just concerned it might be deep and difficult to climb out of - other people on here have reported newts and toads getting stuck and drowning in steep-sided road drains. Quote:

If they're happy living there then I don't see the advantage in relocating them (and they'd probably return anyway).
Maybe this is a non-starter, but how about putting a bit of sand or something on the bottom of the drain and looking for newt tracks going in/out? I'd have thought the tail marks at least might be visible. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
