| | | How do i attract amphibians to my garden? Hi!!
I wanted to ask an important question. How should i attract amphibians to my garden? i've just moved in and i am starting to be worried about how to attract wildlife as there are 5 ft + walls surrounding my garden. Any ideas?
that would be great help!

Good luck. Charlie

There are some really useful leaflets you can download from Froglife and Natural England. Froglife Advice Sheets
1. Build pond
2. Improve access
3. Lots of marginals and oxygenators
4. Suitable terrestrial habitat.
5. Hmmm it's not wise to import amphibians because of spread of disease, and would be illegal with great crested newts anyway. I did hear of someone who discovered some after they had bough in some oxygeators, but that is unlikely.
6. Ask neighbours if any have ponds and whether they have newts. If they are in area and can get in they might colonise.
I don't suppose they are dry stone walls are they?

| | | Re: How do i attract amphibians to my garden? I forgot to ask: do you think they are common lizards? Fast moving or basking in the sun?
Or have you found them hidden away under stones and pots during the day?
...what I am trying to ask is are they definitely lizards or might they be terrestrail newts?

| | | Re: How do i attract amphibians to my garden? thnx dampflippers!
they are dry brick walls and are usually bathed in sunlight in the day but i haven't seen a lizard on it as i think they prefer the fence! ive only seen them two times and they look the same so i assume there's only 1. They are faster than newts, definitely, and like to bask in the sun. i haven't found them under anything yet (probably cuz we jst moved in and hav hardly anything in our garden! )
there are only one other house beside us and another beside that 1 if you get wot i mean and im asking my parents 2 see if we can get a pond.
Next, i hav no idea where the nearest water source is but there is a park down the road where there are lizards nd apparently slow worms. i luv amphibians and reptiles and dyou think i should introduce a few tadpoles or newt larvas or (safer) bring some plants or mud from a pond IF i can find 1. I live in sittingbourne so dyou know any ponds or good places for reptiles and amphibians near there?
V SORRY this was very long... |

Is the fence in your front or back garden? If it is in your back garden, you would need to burrow a little gap underneath in a few places.
Obviously it's not possible to do that under a wall!
