Adder, wrong time, wrong weather

I was out on the local reserve this afternoon.
It was half past two, very dull and had just started to rain.
Was quite surprised but delighted to find this little fella.

thats a very nice looking snake.

at this time of year males are dispersing and looking for females so they don't pay as much attention to 'the rules' as at other times. they can be pretty active at any time during the day and in sub-optimal conditions.
