After last weeks newt count was unsuccessful with producing a Great Crested Newt but plenty of Smooth Newts. I headed off with a fellow friend who is licensed so dont panic, to a different selection of ponds within the Blackpool area and this time SUCCESS!!! with a beautiful female but not male.

It was a great evening. Hopefully more ponds to visit this week... later aswell seeing as brighter nights ahead. |

On Saturday evening I found 19 great crested newts, nearly all males, in a single pond in a disused quarry in North Wales. Also 3 female palmates. | | |
