My first newt count... loved it!!
Went with a local and licensed Great Crested Newt expert to a local wetland area in Blackpool for my first ever count and study of newts. Was a crisp and clear evening (16th March), no Great Crested Newts but at least 15 Smooth Newts, in 3 ponds. Not a bad count seeing as it gets regular disturbance from irresponsible dog owners!!!

Interesting Neil. Good view of the throat there, presumably to show identifying features.

Thank you both and yes that was to show the differences with the speckling on the throat. Maybe out tonight aswell and hopefully to get a shot of a GCN
