| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs this is the first year i have heard frogs here, though have to go out a few hours after dark to do so,
in France the marsh and tree frogs sing away all day long even in the height of summer, which makes finding tree frogs nice and easy

| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs My frogs only seem to croak or sing when it is damp or raining and the night is not too cold. I saved a couple of frogs one evening when I heard croaking coming from the drain, and found them stuck down there. |

| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs I haven't heard our frogs either.
I quit smoking this year so no longer spend that much time standing in the garden at night so could have missed them

Took about 50 - 60 dead frogs out of the fish pond a couple of weeks ago,
| They'd croaked

| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs If your bedroom is at the back of your house, sleep with the window open a bit. That is when I hear mine (but not this year). Mine were here when it was warm a few weeks ago, then went away. I'm hoping the weather warms a bit soon.

| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs Ah, yes, it could well be that I go to bed too early. Thanks DF. Although the YouTube clip was of Common Frogs in the daylight, it was taken in the Netherlands, I think.

| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs ONE DID IT!
There was a lot of male rivalry this afternoon. In full sunshine, as I sat quietly and watched what looked like a bit of a head-butting session, the male in the centre of the scrum became vocal a couple of times.
Interesting to watch.

| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs I've had plenty of frogs living in my garden for the past 25 years and I've never heard a sound from any of them.

| | | Re: The Silence of the Frogs The frogs in my pond (and I am pretty sure they are just about all Common Frogs) croak sporadically throughout the year, apart from the frozen periods, with only a marginal increase during the spawning period and on warm sumer evenings from frogs in the pond. Other times the odd croaks come from under the rocks that surround the pond. One balmy night last summer, around 10pm, I was by the pond, reciting a monologue that I was learning (as you do ) Within seconds, first one and then more and more frogs began croaking from all parts of the pond - must have been 10-20 of them, with slightly differing tones. I stopped reciting and listened to the chorus - enchanting I thought, but maybe they were trying to tell me to shut up . Alternatively, maybe those folks with mute frogs should try the kapellmeister approach
