| | | Re: Still no volunteers for toad crossing despite trying everything Poor you doogyplop I really feel for you & if I lived near I would help . So sorry you live near a bunch of ignoramus's.
'round here we have toads crossing as well but being rural the casualties aren't as high. To answer your query RR I drive v erratically zig zagging around the toads, good job not a lot of police around! I sometimes stop to help them across the road but I am usually going somewhere with a deadline.

I had another thought. It appears from a web search that there is a Whitehaven College. Some of the courses are animal or marine related, so I wonder if there is any way students could be involved. It might be worth an approach.

| | | Re: Still no volunteers for toad crossing despite trying everything sorry for lack of update in past few days, been out with our toady friends big time, really busy now, and when i get home i am knackered, so i dont log on.
got a local volunteer on sunday night, i knocked on his door when i felt overwhelmed and was amazed that he helped, normally i get a blank look.
(rescued hundreds that night between the 2 of us, but many still killed cos this crossing is very spread out, at least 4 roads and many drains need patrolling)
i hope he comes out again, but i wont know until 2nite.
BEEN INFORMED BY HIGHWAYS THAT TOAD SIGNS WILL NOT BE INSTALLED UNTIL NEXT YEAR , but they may bang up a temp slow sign this week (ive heard that before, deja vu)
lets see |

| | | Re: Still no volunteers for toad crossing despite trying everything The latest from Sam Griffin on the Mirehouse site On the off chance that anyone is in the west of the county tonight, I am going to Mirehouse Ponds at 19:30hrs. Apparently there are still a lot of toads moving down on Mirehouse road, but also at a newly discovered site on the St. Bees road! Haig Angling Club (who manage Mirehouse Ponds) have kindly included an informative page on their website - http://sites.google.com/site/haigang.../toad-crossing - a private land owner who owns a road down the side of the ponds has erected a toad sign and Cumbria Highways have agreed to get signs erected on Mirehouse road by the end of the month. This is all great news, but we still need volunteers and we still need to spread the word RE: driving carefully through the area. I expect I have pestered you all enough to have found anyone who lives within a reasonable distance of Whitehaven, but even if you cant volunteer you can help by telling people about what is going on and raising some awareness of the issues.
At least it's getting to a wider audience. Well done doggyplop. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
