The Toads are here (frogs old news )

i know how you feel Za in fact i am thinking about going back into hibernation ...got soooo cold down in the village at around 5.30 today, holding my daughters dog whilst she was in the doctors for an appt ....luckily ''alfie'' had his coat on and was sitting on a blanket but people kept passing and going Awwwwww as he was still shivering luckily i passed the time watching a lovely female blackbird in a nearby hedge digging up the leaves and hopefully finding some lovely fat worms ....but another cold night here i think !!! Hi Marion,
Not a glimpse of any toads here in NW london yet ....i'd SO like to get some spawn. Only a few blobs of frogspawn too so it's all a bit miserable(though some has turned into taddies already cos i brought it inside to 'speed it up', which is nice)
I think toads should be out and about by now in most parts of the UK. Anything going on where you are?

Hi Miranda well i was having a little snoop about in the garden this afternoon (under logs etc cant resist it ) and found 4 of the frogs that had left the pond this year after spawning and 1 male Toad it looks like he has had enough of the cold water and left .soafter i had a few choice words with him i put him back under his log and found him a few worms ...no sign of the Toads i found last week in the pond at all ..even at night with my torch i think they have scarpered ...still i will pray for some more rain to come again ...thats what activated them last time ....everybodys saying how they love this nice weather and all i want is rain !!!! fingers crossed for Toads to come to you Marion

Hi Marion, I am only about 6 miles from Guildford and last Friday I was delighted to see the first ever strings of toadspawn in what is the 3rd spawning season of my pond. I had been rather preoccupied with the frantic activities of the frogs and hadn't actually spotted a single toad either in or around the pond. Here's hoping you are similarly blessed in the not too distant future

Hi malcolmwonderful news ....i think it was you last year i chatted with about toads ...and if my memory serves me well did you not find a pair on you way home one night and put them in your pocket and take them home with you ....well i found one of the male toads under a log well away from the pond yesterday and i think he has given up as it was a week ago tonight that i found the female with 3 males and put them in my pond and have had no sightings of them at all and i was just saying to Kaleigh i cant imagine going through a whole summer without seeing my little toadlets it will be a very sad year for me if i dont get any ....still fingers crossed and at least i will have little ''Terrence'' if he stays under his log ...Marion...ps if you live nr Shalford pond or pass it do you know if they have turned up there yet ...i did the toad crossing there years and years ago now with my children ..it was fantastic

I remember the story Marion, but it wasn't me, or even the sort of thing I might do.
I haven't been past Shalford pond for a couple of months, so can't update you toadwise.
