| | | Frog help! Hello all.
Can someone plz give me abit of advice.Yesterday i noticed one frog and a clump of frogspawn in my pond(very happy),later when i went into the garden at night, i realised he/she wasnt alone lol, there was quite a chorus going on,atleast 15 frogs were there .
This morning there was alot more spawn, but some of it is above the water on the shallow edges of my pond,is this ok or should i move it?....Ive already circled it with stone,to prevent the fish from eating it,plus im thinking of bringing some into the house for the children to watch them turn into froglets. Thanks

| | | Re: Frog help! As long as the whole clump isnt out of the water it will be fine. The top often sticks out of the water. Its fine to bring it into the house, just try and put the froglets back into the your garden when ready. |

So it may be that they have come from other populations. Although you have done it now, its often best not to move spawn around as it can cause problems. |

| | | Re: Frog help! Its probably only the top layers that will be affected by the frost, and the lower eggs may still hatch. Its still early enough that you may get more spawn yet, so if this lot fails, all is not lost.
If you decide to bring some indoors, change about 10-20% of the water once a week and top up with more from your pond (never tap water).
Once the tads hatch, feed them with a small amount of goldfish food, but don't overdue it as uneaten food can pollutes the water. You will probably find that those indoors will develop and grow quicker than those in the pond, as the extra warmth helps them along.
I work at our village pre-school, and will be taking a small clump of spawn in a tank up there next week, for the children to study. I do this every year, and bring them back to my pond when they are almost at the froglet stage. |

| | | Re: Frog help! Fish Food - either flakes or pellets - is a good food for tadpoles when they are young. Cucumber and other vegetable matter are good too, but ensure they are not sprayed with chemicals. As they mature and develop legs, tadpoles become more carnivourous. At this stage, some people provide protein in the form of a chicken bone tied on a string and dangled in water or hard boiled egg yolk. These are enjoyed a lot by the tadpoles, but does foul the water. I have found it is best to use Tetra Pleco-Min 5 Star formula (from pet shops) at this stage, which is high-protein and better for the water, providing you don't over-feed.
