| | | Re: Reptiles 2011 A couple of hours ago. I've heard that quite a few adders have been spotted basking next to their hibernation sites throughout the UK over the past week. |

| | | Re: Reptiles 2011 I will have to look out for them There are a lot of adders around here, and so far I have never seen one. Hoping that this year is the Year of the Snake for me....

| | | Re: Reptiles 2011 Good to see them up + about.
We have some suitable days in London but haven't been able to get to my regular reptile sites. |

| | | Re: Reptiles 2011 The adders have been seen along the Dorset coast near Swanage for the last couple of weeks:
At least 6 seen on this particular day.
Their hibernation spot is at the top of a tall dry stone wall at the entrance to a former cliffstone quarry and they've developed impressive climbing skills.
I filmed this sequence at the same location 2 years ago: http://vimeo.com/9444799
Occasionally they fall from a great height and it's a long way back up!

| | | Re: Reptiles 2011 What amazing footage! Although I see our native amphibian and reptile species on a regular basis, I rarely see much natural behaviour from adders. Basking, small glances on the move etc. Nothing like your video.
Do you take part in the Make The Adder Count survey?
I do and I would advise anyone who knows of an adder hibernation site to undertake this survey.
What camera did you use to film the footage and what program did you use it edit it? |

| | | Re: Reptiles 2011 Glad you like it. That footage was filmed on my old Sony HD Handycam and edited in Premiere Pro CS4. I now use a Canon DSLR for stills and video. Shot some new footage of the adders at the same time I took these photos, but only one slipped a short way to a lower ledge on this occasion.
I'll take a look at that survey - I haven't participated in it before. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
