I love the video, Adders used to abound where I shot on the Mendips, not unusual to see them this early or earlier in the sheltered corners

Saw my first Adder of 2011 today in Dartford Kent. A male basking well out of camera range in a bramble bush. Typical brown colouration with black zig-zag. I'm still trying to get a photo of a silver / grey male but there don't seem to be many at the sites I use. Only saw one like this last year.

It will be another few weeks before they take on the breeding colours. Keep checking and you won't miss them while they are like that.

Thanks, I will. I'm off work for three weeks now and planned to do plenty of snake photography but the weather is meant to be cold and miserable now for the next couple of weeks so my chances of seeing them are pretty slim unfortunately.

Look for the south facing micro climates, there must be some, I have no Bats here but a friend has said they are about in a stand of Beeches near their roostwhere it is warmer and out of the weather. I wish you luck.

according to Metcheck.com - Global Weather Forecasts - 7 Day Weather Forecast for ST4 - [Updated on 27 February 2011 at 15:00] - Weather Feeds - Live Data - Long Range Weather Forecasts the weather from wed onwards looks ok for adders. still early and a bit cool but as nightshade says in those well sheltered areas where adders first emerge it can feel a few degrees warmer than the general ambient temps.
