| | | Re: Frogs mating frenzy The water is so important for the birds too. I have a tray as a bird bath and for ease of drinking and a blackbird bathes in it on almost a daily basis and then hops onto the top of the log pile for preening repairs.
^ The pic of the wildlife pond is as if viewed from the bird 'cafe':
Although there's a small chalk river within 100yds I saw a coot on the roof of my garden shed yesterday morning. Coots are total nutters! Mad!

| | | Re: Frogs mating frenzy Crikey, froggy! That's a lot of spawn. I wonder how many tadpoles you're going to be watching.
By the way, what do tadpoles eat apart from their egg sac and each other?

I've already got some long strands (luxuriant growth) of green algae (blanket weed?) on the sunny side of my pond liner. Not really a problem because my wildlife pond is small enough to easily manage and I can keep it under control. Quote: |

Thanks, guys

| | | Re: Frogs mating frenzy Hi Red Robin...I have allways supplimented their food to help them along otherwise they do turn cannible very early on i start off with lettuce blanched in very hot water for about 30 seconds cool it down and give it a good old sueeze ...they love it ...then i have found over the years that there is only one floating pellet that really floats and that they actually like ...and that is king british floating goldfish pellets ...have tried koi ones and others but they dont go down well ..i cannot tell you how many tubs i got thru last year (my cats loved them as well ) but you can buy actual tadpole food !!!! 5.99 a pot from my local notcutts but i stuck to my above mentioned pellets as they were half the price .....a lot of people do feed slivers of meat but as a veggie i dont go down that route ...BUT if i accidently tread on a slug i pop that in and they go mad .....and as i dont use any weed control or slug pellets etc ....my garden is a refuge for millions of the little blighters so you can hardly walk down the path at night without a casualty most days even the dogs come in with the odd slug attached to their foot ...hope that is of some help marion..Ps thanks for you lovely comments about the frog smiley pic ....i was so thrilled with it and have got it as my desktop background too .....plus i am going to enter it into a local photographic competition on her behalf as she wont

Yes, that smiley froggy pic is definitely photo competition-worthy. It's not always technical brilliance which wins but capturing that unique moment and communicating it.
Now, is that grinning froggy a female who is feeling rather satisfied or a male saying "Come to daddy, you lovely ladies!" We'll never know.
