| | | Re-Inroduction.. I read on another forum about why not re-introducing the Sand Lizard to East Anglia and also why not the Smooth Snake as well. The heaths,sandy soils and prey are perfect. So why hasnt this been done? |

| | | Re: Re-Inroduction.. It might be because of the adverse effect they could have on other species, or because long term survival may not be possible due to other conditions. It may also because the current breeding stock is needed for other projects ongoing.
Until the reason they are not there now is determined and identified, a re-introduction programme may prove to be a waste of resources. I've been involved in a number of relocation programmes, and even that is an absolute nightmare due to the numerous things that have to be taken into account. |

(a) were they ever established in that area?
(b) if so, why did they become extinct?
(c) if there was a known cause for extinction, has that been remedied?
