| | | found a frog crossing the street...no realy hey all iv signed up here to try and get some advice.
walking down the road the other day i came across a frog that was trying to cross the road...very slowly. so in fear for his life i picked him up and carred him home were i put him in a bucket with some water and crikets while i worked out what to do with him. iv got a pond but its got side about 2 foot of the ground and in the summer frogs do get in but i dont want to just drop him in this time of year incase thats the wrong thing to do.
i thought about taking him to a large park near me with a large lake and leaving him in the bush's at the waters edge....what do you think.
hes been very slow and lethargic any ideas?
please get back to me as soon as you can as im not sure what to do with him. |

| | | Re: found a frog crossing the street...no realy I suggest that in a sheltered part of your garden you construct a small heap of stones or bricks with a small paving slab or the like so it's like a little cave. Fill it with any leaf litter or damp grass cuttings. Pop the frog in and put some more rocks in front so that there is a small entrance, then cover the entire thing with leaves, twigs and logs (watching that it doesn't collapse at all) and leave the frog there during the winter. This hibernacula may be enough for it to survive/maybe not. Dropping it in a pond will probably kill it and it really only needs a pond for breeding in early spring.
Hope this helps.

| | | Re: found a frog crossing the street...no realy Assuming you are in the UK, I would guess any still waters are largely frozen. Frogs are cold blooded + should be dormant at the moment- I would place it in a sheltered place such as a log pile, base of hedge (ideally well away from any cats) + hope for the best. |
