| | | Re: Frozen Frogs Took out another dead frog from my pond yesterday. Quite large, quite bloated and on its underbody was covered in a blob of jelly. Can anybody throw any light on what this is? I've had 8 dead frogs in total up till now. I had the pump going for a couple of hours to oxygenate the water before the ice returns. And it did this morning!
Pics are from last spring. Frog frenzy!

On the other hand, if the "proto-spawn" had got wet by water entering the dead body, then it would expand and be forced out.

I've had a good look and not seen anymore as yet.
The frogs will be back shortly. In my pond I'm sure. Looking at how many there was last year. See my pic above! I'm sure you will have as well. Don't underestimate nature. Good luck! |

| | | Re: Frozen Frogs There is hope for my pond yet! I am very excited to report that I saw two frogs in my pond today, one a male, the other one dived before I got a good look at it. Fingers and everything else crossed I get some frog spawn this year to replace the frogs I lost this winter. |

Excellent news. I found 1 male frog in the pond this morning, quite a young one by the looks of it. I've not had any females turn up yet, but I am hopeful that we will see spawn this spring.
In total I took out 28 dead males over the winter, so there is some way to go for them catchup. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
