| | | Re: Guess the lizard Thanks, there's quite a few intentionally-introduced colonies around us so we'll no doubt be going on a wall lizard hunt next year.

| | | Re: Guess the lizard I would love to observe them in the UK sometime but being in Scotland and not going down south much I doubt that will ever happen. I wonder if there have ever been introductions to Scotland and it's just been too cold for them to survive. |

| | | Re: Guess the lizard Fascinating thread folks, I have to admit to the fact that the last time I did any semi-serious reading on British reptiles and amphibians was probably way back in the sixties, obviously much has changed !
I would be obliged if anyone could recommend any good reading on the subject.

Pigeon lover. | Two books I'd thoroughly recommend are as follows:
Britain's Reptiles + Amphibians by Howard Inns (Wild Guides)
An ID guide by one of our top herpetologists that covers a lot of detail about the natural history of each species, excellent photos, covers not just the native species bu all the various exotics + marine turtles, sections on conservation, sites, etc.
Also the New Naturalist (the 3rd volume to relate to herps):
Amphibians + Reptiles by Trevor Beebee + Richard Griffiths
Put both on your Xmas list + you won't be disappointed! |

Pigeon lover. | Hi Pigeon lover,
As well as the excellent publications recommended by Aeshna5 there is plenty to get you started regarding introduced species of herpetofauna on the British Isles here; Alien Encounters 2009 - Home
