| | removing a pond Information please.I have a small garden pond where frogs live and breed,
unfortunately I am looking to sell my house next year (2011) and feel it would be better to remove the pond, and frogs, as I cannot take the chance the new owners would treat the wildlife kindly, you know some peoples attitudes to frogs. How is the best way to do this, and what do I do with the frogs.
Any advice please. |

Wouldn't this be better responded to in the Water Life Forum where there are more pond specialists?
A Warm Welcome by the way!

| | | Re: removing a pond Considering one of the major threats to frogs is habitat loss, I would leave the pond and take the risk with the new owners. Its quite a paranoid thing to think. |

if the real reason is that it mightnput off buyers with small kids, then make sure that the pond has a secure mesh cover or fence

| | | Re: removing a pond Best advice leave the pond where it is. You asked the question where would I put the frogs? The answer is that you would not be at all popular if you moved them to other wildlife ponds because of the threat of introducing disease to the site. If you found a local neighbour who wanted some frogs for his garden pond, then if he is happy with the prospect, it would offer a solution. What you need to consider is that frogs are likely to return to a long established breeding site (your pond?) and if they are presented with only bare earth they are likely to spawn in any nearby shallow water including puddles with the inevitable loss of life. |

| | | Re: removing a pond Put on the details; 'wild life garden.' Prospective purchasers who like concrete will be aware before they waste your time, But prospective purchasers who love wildlife will come and look. Good luck, welcome to WAB. |
