ok moved to a new property a few years back which I’m situated behind a old wood and fields were I noticed that whenever it rains very heavily the back garden area floods terrible,, so on doing some investigating noticed was an old 5inch dia pipe that cuts though the garden to a water drain but this was cracked so hence flooding the garden, so decided to dig it up and just have a natural watercourse running to the drain instead it seems to work started planting it up will get some more pics next year when it matures

Wow that is really cool im very jealous. I would love to have a little stream going through my garden. I would be so tempted to dig it much wider and have maybe have a deep pond part.

Yeah, me too. so jealous . It looks lovely, presume it'll create a boggy area, so you can put loads of marshy plants in as well.

T, not sure if I would want a deep pond area using field run off, as you may get a lot of spray residue in the pond, unless it's a grass field behind you not an arable? Does anybody know anything about this sort of stuff?

Admittedly know nothing much about run off. Presumably there are some studies about?

I’m building pond in a different area I have got 300 marginal plants sitting there waiting for the thing to be built! it’s never a good idea to put a pond that has a run off form a working field as chemicals they spray will kill everything not only that the silt that erodes from the side of the bank would fill up a pond in no time hence why stream isn’t wide or deep its built just for water passing though .. Cheers James ps cowgirl I get a lot people who live next to farm land having problems with algae because of the high nitrate that chemical that gets into their ponds
