After three hours hard labour for a conservation group (pond digging today) the reward was coming across the following little chap.
Stranded on a path, it may not live, but we gave it a better chance than it had if we hadn't found it. Fantastic for us to see, as we had just been talking about the highlights of this suburban site, and this elusive species was one of them.

took the kids to cannock chase for the afternoon. saw 20+ common lizards and a couple of adders. struggled to get any decent pics though. this is the best i could manage.
congrats on seeing your first grass snake btw.
