| | | Re: Reptile/amphibian of the day Frensham pond finally saw a Sand Lizard, a species I last saw in the mid 60,s at the Blue Pool in Wareham.
We also saw many common lizards, happily lots of this years young, lets hope they are getting more common!
Sorry but could not get any pictures. |

well done on seeing the sand lizard. they are special.
i was working in chester on wednesday and had an hour to kill at lunchtime so i legged it to a spot in llangollen where i know there are reptiles. it took me longer than i thought to get there so i only had a few minutes to search. i was literally running from stone to stone turning them and finding nothing. then, as a last resort i ran to the other side of the hill where i spotted a brash pile over scree. legged it over there, drebntched in sweat, turned a few more stones without seeing anything then, with my last attempt, turned a small metal sheet and seven slowworms were under it.
made it all worthwhile.

| | | Re: Reptile/amphibian of the day Today at Chobham we recorded 2 Adders, 3 Common Lizards, a Slow-worm moving through over leaf litter (nice to see one not under a refugia) + almost beside it a Common Frog. |

| | | Re: Reptile/amphibian of the day 3 Red-eared Terrapins sunbathing on a log by an island in Richmond Park as a Cormorant sat at the bottom of the log with wings outstretched + a juvenile Hobby sat above. A few minutes later a Heron flew onto the log + 1 of the terrapins must have dropped into the water as only 2 could then be seen. All those critters together looked a little incongruous! |

| | | Re: Reptile/amphibian of the day hi folks.
really enjoying this thread. a few adders and common lizards around today at burntwood in north staffs. i think the neo adder (one of several) was just about my fave but i enjoyed seeing the lizard too, especially as he posed so obligingly for me.
cheers

| | | Re: Reptile/amphibian of the day I had to do some shopping in Bournemouth today, but while I was in the area I thought I'd look for a couple of 'aliens' that are now established on the cliffs there.
Wall Lizards were abundant, including a number of juveniles, here's an adult male.
I only saw a couple of Green Lizards, a male and a female, they certainly live up to their name!
Apparently there is some concern that they may be causing problems for our native lizards, seeing them certainly made Bournemouth feel a bit more exotic though!

Great pics & news on here everyone, really enjoyable read | Thanks Pam, it was nice seeing him, and seeing as they're noticeably larger than our native lizards and bright green it was quite easy to spot them before they scuttled off for once

great lizard pics. i'm not sure there is much concern about the greens but there is definitely concern about wall lizards. wall lizards seem to be able to out compete both common and sand lizards for food, territory etc. i think the general feeling is that where wall lizard colonies are isolated then no problem but where they occur alongside native lizards their impact is significant.
