| | | Re: Reptile/amphibian of the day Since spawning there have been about ten frogs which have taken up a permanent residence in my pond. All of them appear to be common frogs except this one which has a green stripe down its back. It looks to be around two years old as it is only a couple of inches long. It is the only one with green markings, could it be a marsh frog. The pond is next to the river Thames in Surrey, is there supposed to be any marsh frogs in this area. |

| | | Re: Reptile/amphibian of the day It is a Marsh or one of the other similar "green " frogs. They are common in some places in the borough of Richmond + surrounding area- they are found along the River Crane, abundant at the London Wetland Centre, a small population at Lonsdale Road Reservoir, common at Bedfont Lakes Country Park + no doubt other places locally.
Though they seem quite good dispersing along ditch systems on their own they also get moved around inadvertently as tadpoles when fish are transferred by fishing clubs. |
