| | | frog/toad Id please Hi!
I came across quite a few of these frog/toads on a path near the town of Callendar, Scotland. I tried to ID them via my Collins British Wildlife book but no joy. Can someone help please.
Regards

| | | Re: frog/toad Id please Apart from the "warts" on the skin one easy difference is that frogs hop and toad walk, that should have been not too difficult to see on the surface they were on. |

| | | Re: frog/toad Id please Well that's the thing, they did appear to be hopping which made me think frog but their skin did appear warty. That's what confused me more than anything else.

How odd: maybe they had not read the conventional texts...or maybe my text was in error, but I have seen toads walk and frogs hop and not vice versa.
...certainly the creature in your picture doesn't look like a frog to me.. |

| | | Re: frog/toad Id please Definately a toad, you can tell by the rich brown colour, the blunt face, the short legs, the rough warty skin. Both frogs and toads walk and both jump, it is just toads a more commoly found walking and frogs tend to jump to escape danger so are more commonly found jumping. |

| | | Re: frog/toad Id please They are definately toads, but they do hop. Certainly adult toads are either incapable or very reluctant to hop, but the youngsters are quite capable.
Oh, for the energy of youth..... |
