Adders in Summer

I take it in these months Adders disperse a fair distance from there areas they use in Spring and Autumn? I saw a young male the other day in Thetford Forest but it was in a totally different location to where i expected to see and caught me more or less off guard.If i hadn't seen it the dog would....It was crossing our path in a hurry.
I checked out another area this morning where i saw a female in May but alas no luck.
I am under the impression there spread all over the open forested areas but hiding in the bracken etc.. As its too warm?

They do disperse and vegetation at this time of year is much thicker and conceals them better. They also heat up alot quicker and could go back under cover as early as 0800hrs on a warm day.
